Bringing Tami Oldham’s survival story to the screen was no small task, and STX Entertainment turned to us to help create the world of Adrift with an authentic island community.
Set in 1983 Tahiti and filmed in Fiji across Pacific Harbour, Rakiraki, and Suva, this film required extras who not only fit the era but also brought a natural, lived-in presence to every scene.
With no talent agents in Fiji, we conducted open casting calls, personally selecting and managing over 700 extras—many of whom had never stepped foot on a film set before. From guiding them through the filmmaking process to ensuring period-accurate looks, we worked closely with each and every individual to create a seamless and immersive atmosphere. Another unique challenge? Most extras didn’t have bank accounts, so we coordinated daily cash payments, navigating logistics on a scale rarely seen in modern productions.
The Result: A film that feels as raw and real as the true story behind it. Every background performer helped bring Adrift to life, proving that authenticity isn’t just about setting—it’s about people.
